England

Tips & Recommendations

London Tube Service: The Tube service is the best way to travel around London. It is cheap, fast and relativity easy to navigate your way around the tube lines and stations. I recommend buying an Oyster Card to eliminate the hassle of buying tickets, especially if you are unsure of your destination.

London Bus Service: The Bus service is also good however it is much slower than the tube as it has to battle with the traffic. As of the 1st of July all London public transport buses will not accept cash so you MUST have an Oyster Card in order to use the service.

Oyster Cards: Definitely buy an Oyster Card! They are 5 pound each and can be purchased at all Tube Stations, most post offices and convenient stores. They are super easy to top up; either at the Tube Station itself using cash or card or online if you have registered your card. They provide great perks to such as:
  • Save time - your card is ready to use as soon as you arrive
  • It's cheaper than buying a paper Travelcard or single tickets
  • There is a daily price cap - once you have reached this limit, you won't pay any more
  • Enjoy discounts on the Emirates Air Line cable car and Thames Clipper River Buses
Once you have completed your travels return your oyster and you will be refunded the cost of the card plus any money left on the card at the time.

The Big Bus Tour: I highly recommend The Big Bus Tour for those who are wanting to explore London but do not know where to start. The bus has two routes (Red Route which has 31 stops & Blue Route which has 43 stops) to choose from depending on what you what to see and how much time you have. The tickets allow you to hop on and hop off the buses at any location and as many times as you like as well as including live commentary in 10 different languages during the tour, a free river cruise & free walking tours. The buses run from 8:30am to 6:00pm with regular departures every 5-15 minutes. The tickets usually last 24 hours from the time of activation however The Big Bus company are currently offering a deal which extends the tickets to 30 hours. This means you can start at 12pm and continue the following day until 6pm. This extra 6 hours allows you to get your bearings as well as provides more time to wander and explore London.
