France

Tips & Recommendations

Taxis - Try to avoid using Taxis if possible - They are expensive and can be quite a scary experience as the road rules are basically non-existent. Locating a cab is often hard as there seems to be a real shortage of taxis in Paris. Hailing a cab in Paris is also next to impossible. If you absolutely require a cab then I would recommend that your hotel reserves a cab for you so that you can get to your located in time.

Pedestrian Road Crossings: Beware - The French do not stop for ANYONE to cross the road at a pedestrian crossing. If there are light posts wait for the green man to flash before you cross a road.

Watch for Motorbikes: Keep an eye out for motorbikes in the streets or on the sidewalks barreling towards you at alarming speeds. You are expected to move out of their way and quickly - not the other way around.

The Big Bus Tour: I highly recommend The Big Bus Tour for those who are wanting to explore Paris but do not know where to start. The bus has two routes to choose from depending on what you what to see and how much time you have. The tickets allow you to hop on and hop off the buses at any location and as many times as you like as well as including live commentary in 10 different languages during the tour, a free river cruise & free walking tours. The buses run from 8:30am to 6:00pm with regular departures every 5-15 minutes. The tickets usually last 24 hours from the time of activation.
